overcoming the overwhelm
Getting stuck
I have so many ideas that I would love to share, but where to start?
So many things to consider:
- what do i write for my first article?
- what if i get it wrong?
- will it come back to haunt me in the future?
- what do the experts say?
- will it make sense to people?
- what will friends and family think?
- should I have a few articles ready to publish before I start?
- how can I make sure people find me?
Thinking about all this has been overwhelming. And oppressive. For years.
I have been stuck behind the ’starting line’ for far too long!
Getting unstuck
I was sitting here crocheting and thinking: if I waited ’til I had everything perfect, I would never get started. That's not new, I have had that same thought many times, but today something clicked.
I decided to ignore the overwhelm and start small, even tiny. I will stop being a perfectionist, stop wanting everything in chronological order, stop procrastinating!
It is always better to do something, anything, rather than never start and end up with nothing.
So here we go, it's me just doing it …
My articles will likely be sporadic. I certainly won’t be sticking to a daily or weekly (or even monthly) schedule — my brain/body simply doesn’t cope with the stress of deadlines. But I will share my knowledge and skills with you when I can.
Now, to pick a niche?
Wherever I look, the advice is always to concentrate on one subject. How can I do this? I have too many ideas and interests. I can’t pick just one — my brain doesn’t work that way. I can only give my energy to what interests me at the time.
So … my niche is ‘me’.
I’ll be starting with crochet, but my mind may lead anywhere …
Good on you for starting!
